Last Night

.
.

ribbons rake my shoulders, charcoal stripes on pallid warmth
wind and tangled hair
dragged cross fevered lips
I can taste you
your caress, hesitant and damp
along my jaw
between my breasts it slid, my belly smooth
your scent saturates the night, corporeal…flesh and sky and earth
shackles me with sodden chains
the world in black and blaze of white
roaring in the trees
splinters beneath my palms, the rail I clutch
electricity shivers beneath my skin
sleep abandoned

I cannot resist a midnight thunderstorm….

May I just say that in nearly three years of this virtual world, I've never shared a poem. Why does it seem more personal...more vulnerable?

It may be removed tomorrow....lol

Don't remove it, it's good. I used to write poetry, but mine were all dark and full of angst. lol

Don't remove it Chantal. It spoke to me. You are amazing.

because it is so personal...so intimate, so raw and brave.....you are awesome!.... really...we are all so afraid to be reveal deep and emotional art...this is very liberating....but i certainly understand the urge to remove it...i have removed almost all of my personal posts....it freaks me to think of who reads them.....

What is so great about poetry is that you can have one viewpoint and yet others can see different things within it. But if it speaks to our sense of passion and love of beauty and brings joy, then that is the thing that should be shared and praised.

Your poem spoke to me in a very powerful way.

It didn't even need a picture to help us feel it.

Can I share it on my guest blog?

Huge Hugs...

Evocative and beautiful poem. You brought the midnight storm right to my door...

I can't resist one either.
Lovely.

I liked it, but I am also a sucker for thunderstorms.

Poetry is more personal...we reveal our thoughts and feelings and imaginings. I suspect we also fear that others will judge our poetry-writing skill. Ironically, what others think about that is irrelevant. If it speaks to them, great. And this speaks to me.

Mary & Lyndsay--seriously, I was going to remove it before I went to bed....and found your comments. Thank you.

Mermaid--exactly! Thank you, this was a stretch for me...

Warrior--thank you, there was magic and joy that night. And yes, you can. :)

Shelly--thank you, that means the world to me!

Terlee--do they wake you too? I can't help but go outside...

Pamela (& Edward)--thank you, your way with words gives that such weight.

Robbie--truly, how can one not rush out to let the rain cascade over your skin in the dark...it cleanses the soul, doesn't it?

Bliss--you're right, I think it's the imaginings that make me feel naked...the feelings undisguised. And I'm so glad it spoke to you.

Chantel,
When God passed out gifts to each of us he surely gave you, amongst so many other things, a colorful vibrant imagination and the words to go with it! Every description resonates. And then, the surprise and concurrence that yes!, this is exactly the feel of experiencing a thunderstorm. Hats off!

Don't you dare remove it! I know what you mean about poetry- only one person has ever read any of mine and that's the only person who ever will. Until I die. LOL I really, really like the one you shared! Really!

There is a different(deeper, much) kind of beauty in the vulnerable.

I've never reread an entry in my journal & found something I hadn't known I'd expressed, just reading it one day later....but it has happened to me many times when I craft a poem. ~Mary

Nice. But I can't help think of one of my favorite songs called Last Night by The Strokes. Check it out.

This is incredibly powerful, Chantel, you should publish it to a wider audience, my dear - it sends tingles down my spine (of a most pleasant nature)! You have a gift, and use it well.

Chantel, this is Stephanie from "Life, Unexpectedly". I am sorry that it took me some time to get back to you after your comment at my blog; I didn't just want to write something back but actually take time to read some of your posts and let hem work on me. I have to say, I really love your writing, it is so intense. And you are right, life is better unplanned, because who knows where one day's surprise will lead you in a day, a week, a year or your entire life.

I will definitely return! Stephanie

Mel--thank you, I'm slightly overwhelmed by the response I've received to this...

Stephanie--so thrilled you came by! Thank you and I've learned so many times that my planning is nothing compared to the joy of the unforseen. :)

Kelly--thank you, as long as I can make someone feel something, I'm happy.

Slyde--LOL!
